Arts Centre
Funding has been approved for Thurles arts centre, which
will be based in the Cathedral car park. It is hoped that
the centre will incorperate a Theatre, Exhibition Area and
a Branch Library, expected costs are in the region of €4
million when completed.

| The Maltese Special Olympics team finally
arrived in Thurles to a warm and colourful gathering of
supporters at the civic reception held at the Council
Offices to welcome the team . We all wish them an ejoyable
stay and best of luck in the competition. |

Visits Thurles |
| President Mary McAleese paid a flying visit
to Thurles last week to open the new state of the art
Library at Scoil Ailbhe, the school continues to improve
its facilities having recently added a new computer lab.

Friar St
The long awaited road works have begun in Friar St. Local
businesses have noticed a significant drop in trade, due to
the disruption. It is expected to take up to three months
to complete.
