Cathedral of the Assumption

A must see when visiting Thurles is this spectacular Cathedral was built in 1879, it has been written that it was modelled on the Cathedral of Piza and the architecture does have strong Italian feel.

St Mary's Famine Memorial

To give it its full title St Mary's Famine Memorial Church and War Museum, lets us remember the great famine and how it affected Thurles and surrounding areas. St Mary's is also home to the war museum.

HolyCross Abbey

On the outskirts of Thurles is Holycross Abbey founded in the 12th century it was restored in 1975 and not only functions as a parish church but is also one of Irelands leading Novena Centres.
